No Damage Installation Renter-Friendly Wall Panels
Renter-Friendly Wall Panels in Houston
Renting shouldn't mean living with bare, builder-grade walls. Modern Loom's acoustic wood slat panels and marble SPC panels can be installed and removed without damaging your drywall, protecting your security deposit while transforming your space.
How Renter-Friendly Installation Works
Our panels support two installation methods that are suitable for rental properties:
Screw-Down Method (Most Popular)
Panels are attached to the wall using small screws through the panel backing. When you move out, panels are unscrewed and removed cleanly. The resulting holes are small (standard drywall screw size) and can be patched with basic spackling compound in minutes, the same repair you'd make after hanging a large picture frame.
Adhesive-Strip Method
For truly zero-damage installation, heavy-duty removable adhesive strips (similar to 3M Command strips rated for heavier loads) can be used on the panel backing. This method works best on smooth, well-primed drywall. Panels remove cleanly with no wall damage when strips are removed per the manufacturer's instructions.
Which Panels Work Best for Renters?
- Acoustic wood slat panels — screw-down installation, clean removal, small holes easily patched. 2ft × 10ft panels are lightweight and manageable solo.
- SPC marble panels — adhesive installation over existing surfaces (tile, smooth drywall). When removed carefully, leave minimal residue. Not recommended for textured walls.
- WPC wood grain panels — adhesive installation, waterproof, ideal for rental bathrooms where tile is already present (panels go over existing tile, no demo required).
Before You Install — Talk to Your Landlord
We recommend a quick conversation with your landlord or property manager before installation. In our experience, most landlords approve wall panels when shown what the installation looks like and how cleanly they remove. Offering to patch any holes at move-out is usually all that's needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose my security deposit for installing wall panels?
It depends on your lease and landlord. Screw-down acoustic panels leave small holes similar to picture-hanging hardware, a repair that typically costs under $20 in materials and is often classified as normal wear and tear. We recommend patching before your final walkthrough. The adhesive-strip method leaves no holes at all.
Can I take the panels with me when I move?
Yes, this is one of the biggest advantages of our panels over paint or wallpaper. Panels are screwed or adhered, not permanently attached. When you move, they unscrew and come with you. Install them in your next place the same day.
How long does it take to remove the panels?
About as long as it took to install them. A single accent wall of acoustic panels (8–10 panels) takes 30–45 minutes to remove with a basic drill. Panels stack flat and store easily.
Do I need permission from my landlord to install wall panels?
Check your lease, most leases restrict permanent alterations (paint, tile, built-ins) but are silent on removable fixtures. Wall panels that screw into drywall and remove cleanly are typically treated like shelving or curtain rods. When in doubt, ask — most landlords say yes when they see how clean the removal is.
What wall types do the panels work on?
Acoustic panels screw into standard drywall, concrete (with appropriate anchors), and wood-frame walls. SPC and WPC panels adhere over smooth drywall, existing tile, or primed surfaces. Heavily textured walls are not ideal for adhesive installation.
